It was not even supposed to be a close game! It was supposed to be over before halftime! It was supposed to be basically a preseason game!
Instead it was Michigan's first loss of the season!
It is being called the biggest upset in College Football History, the first time a FCS (D-1AA) team beat a ranked FBS (D-1A) team. If I wasn't watching it live on the Big Ten Network, I wouldn't have believed it. Appalachian State 34, Michigan 32. The Wolverines were not only out-coached by the Mountaineers, they were flat out out-played too. The only bright spot for the Wolverines was Senior Runningback Mike Hart, who had 188 yards and 3 touchdowns. Other than that, the Wolverines had 1 interception, 2 missed 2-point conversions, and 2 blocked field goals, including the potentional game winning one as time expired. The Mountaineers were led by Quarterback Armanti Edwards' 289 yards and 4 touchdowns.
The Mountaineers will continue their quest for a third straight FCS title, as they host Lenoir Rhyne next Saturday. The Wolverines will try to bounce back from this devestating loss next week against Oregon.
Other big games around the nation: Runningback Justin Forsett rushed for 156 yards and one touchdown as the 12th ranked Cal Bears defeated the 15th ranked Tennessee Vols 45-31 in the only game between ranked teams. Also 9th ranked Virginia Tech defeat East Carolina by 10, 17-7.
Player of the Week is Hawaii Quarterback Colt Brennan. Brennan had 416 yards and 6 touchdowns in ONE HALF of play in a 63-6 win over Northern Colorado. NCU will go home after a very disappointing vacation.
Well, until next week, this is The 'Bus, signing off.
